Chevrolet Corvette C1 (1953 - 1962)

The C1 Corvette was America’s first enduring answer to the European sports car. Early examples were stylish but modestly powered, yet the model quickly evolved as Chevrolet added V8 engines, better transmissions and a stronger performance identity through the 1950s.

Its fibreglass body was unusual for the era and helped give the Corvette a distinctive place in American car culture. By the time the first generation ended, it had moved from glamorous roadster to credible sports car, laying the foundation for every Corvette that followed.
